About the Opportunity

Responsibilities:

The Academic Administrator will provide professional administrative support to the Department Chair and Graduate Program Director for three graduate programs in the Department of Political Science, including the PhD and MA Program in Political Science and the MS Program in Security and Resilience Studies. They provide ancillary professional administrative support for the undergraduate programs in Political Science and related departmental activities. Plan, organize, and implement activities for the programs' admissions, financial aid, student records, alumni relations, and publications. The administrator attends all relevant graduate and undergraduate committee meetings and they advise students in administrative matters, general program policies, and petition requests.

The Academic Administrator monitors student academic progress and advises students and faculty when appropriate. They also prepare and conduct graduate commencement clearance for the department. This position will develop and implement computer tracking systems to monitor student academic progress and review related student records and advise students and faculty when appropriate. Coordinate and develop marketing materials. Collect, analyze, and present data and reports for department and program use. Monitor and manage website and Access database for the department. Provide office coverage for the front office and monitor work-study students, as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required and responsible administrative experience of 2-3 years preferred. Strong computer skills required in word processing, database management, spreadsheets, website maintenance, and electronic correspondence. Organizational and interpersonal skills critical; independence and initiative essential. Familiarity with university administration and student services a plus.
