Position Summary

The Academic and Analytics Specialist (AAS) provides ongoing support for graduate and undergraduate academic programs and processes for the College of Organizational, Computational, and Information Sciences (COCIS), including enrollment projections, course scheduling and evaluation, student progressions, and data management and reporting to support program assessment and planning. The AAS applies technological solutions and data analysis methods to standardize, improve, and streamline academic processes and reporting. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the AAS will also supervise student workers as needed to execute assigned projects.

Academic Course Support (40%)
  • Support COCIS division/school-level course planning and faculty deployment processes;
  • Liaise with Simmons' Registrar's Office for course scheduling and student registrations;
  • Oversee student course registrations and communicate with students and faculty about course changes such as cancellations, waitlists, and new sections;
  • Support COCIS faculty with course scheduling, including room assignments, instructional needs, and support for use of tools such as Colleague, DataTel, and AARC;
  • Maintain a repository of all COCIS course syllabi (graduate and undergraduate) for all academic units (SLIS, MCS, and B-School).


Data and Analytics (40%)
  • Contribute to the develop and maintenance of a data repository to support COCIS accreditation, course planning, strategic plans, enrollment projections and planning, annual reports, market analyses, and other academic reporting as required;
  • Create and maintain a data map that identifies what data is needed, where it is located, how often it is updated, and other data demographic points that arise, under the guidance and input from COCIS academic leadership;
  • Collaborate with other University departments to coordinate data acquisition and academic reporting;
  • Coordinate data gathering for accreditation reports and enter data into required academic and accreditation systems (Sedona, AACSB, ALISE, ALA, etc.); create data accreditation report maps to ensure that data reported is determined consistently from year to year;
  • Provide enrollment forecasts, track course enrollments, and provide projections as necessary; develop time-to-graduation models for COCIS students and identify cause-and-effect relationships.


Reporting and Market Research (10%)
  • Research, analyze, and synthesize current trends in COCIS academic disciplines to expand knowledge base of current and future academic offerings;
  • Provide data to academic division teams to support problem-solving efforts, increase COCIS academic rankings, and identify new opportunities;
  • Prepare reports and end products such as data dashboards, models, and/or slide presentations, to support informed decision making;
  • Generate reports that analyze competition and customers; conduct secondary research, including gathering information from industry associations, statisticians, and marketing experts;
  • Liaise with other University departments to stay current on updates and changes to processes that impact course support, student enrollment, data needs, and assessment.


Operational Support (10%)
  • Provide project management support work for the COCIS annual report;
  • Hire, train, and supervise student workers;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or minimum 5 years of comparable work experience;
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in higher education;
  • Familiarity with student registration and course scheduling activities;
  • Experience with extracting data from enterprise systems, analyzing and reporting data.


Preferred Qualifications
  • MS preferred, preferably in information/library science, data science, computer science, or related field;
  • Professional work experience in information/library science, data science, computer science or related fields is a plus;
  • Demonstrated process improvement and project execution skills;
  • Demonstrated experience with Excel, data management systems; experience with data visualization applications preferred;
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills, ability to work both collaboratively and in teams; extreme attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with responsiveness to organizational priorities.
