About the Opportunity

Summary and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director for Undergraduate Financial Aid advises and counsels a caseload of undergraduate students/families on the availability of financial aid, the delivery process for receiving it, and the reconciliation processes required to insure that financial aid funds are transferred to student accounts. The Assistant Director reviews student applications, performs verification procedures, reviews/evaluates appeals, and intercedes for students with participating departments (deans, CSC, registrar, co-op). The Assistant Director is responsible for monitoring students' academic progress and working with campus partners to communicate and discuss issues related to scholarship and need-based aid eligibility. The Assistant Director serves as an SFS liaison for special cases referred by campus partners such as WeCare,OSOP and/or Admissions, and supports research, review, and resolution for escalations.

Working with the Associate Director, the Assistant Director trains and supervises undergraduate day financial aid counselors including some with area specialization, and other professional, clerical and student staff as needed. The Assistant Director also trains other campus staff including Admissions, Enrollment Management Contact Center, Community and City Affairs, etc. on policies and procedures relating to SFS customer service and scholarship programs and assists in the implementation and management of new student service and support initiatives. Serving as a member of the Student Financial Services team, the Assistant Director assists with implementing new initiatives, policies, and programs across the Student Financial Services and Enrollment Management units and will assist in optimizing technology and data analysis to improve student experience, satisfaction, and success.

The Assistant Director contributes to all shared Student Financial Services and Enrollment Management goals and manages special projects and initiatives as requested.

Working with the Associate Director for Scholarships, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid represents Student Financial Services when working with other University offices to recruit, enroll and retain students. The Assistant Director also serves as a liaison for tracking and awarding funds through department request or scholarship initiatives and partnerships.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in student personnel administration, financial aid required.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title IV regulations, federal and institutional need analysis.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of PowerFAIDS, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Flexible work schedule.
