Starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $8,155 a month.

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Dean of Student, the Associate Dean and Director of Student Conduct serves as the Student Conduct Administrator and Care Team Coordinator for campus and is responsible for the adjudication process of alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code and Student Organization Code of Conduct. The incumbent is expected to use mediation skills to resolve complex, multifaceted, and often emotionally-charged disputes and assist parties involved to reach agreement and provides lead direction, facilitation and direct oversight of the Residential Student Conduct process.

Pursuant to California State University Executive Order 1098, or any superseding executive order, and the provisions of Title 5, California Code Regulations Section 41301, the incumbent conducts investigations for incidents involving students, facilitates grievance proceedings, adjudicates student disciplinary referrals involving violations of Title 5, California Code of Education, and assists the Vice President of Student Affairs in developing policies and procedures related to Judicial Affairs. In addition, the Student Conduct Officer presents educational programs to faculty and students, and advises senior leadership on major disciplinary policies and issues. The incumbent works collaboratively and extensively with numerous offices on campus, including but not limited to, Residential Education & Campus Housing, University Police Services, and Student Involvement, as well as academic units to respond to and investigate reports of alleged violations and to educate the university community. In addition, the incumbent contributes to and promotes events, activities, and experiences that enhance student success.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following in support of the Division of Student Affairs:

STUDENT CONDUCT
- Conduct assessments, investigations and adjudications on alleged violations of Student Code of Conduct, Student Organization Code of Conduct, California State University Executive Orders, and Title 5 of the California Education Code.
- Collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, staff, and local and campus law enforcement when investigating alleged violations, provides guidance and resources.
- Interpret and communicate university policies and appropriate local, state and federal laws to a diverse audience.
- Provide adjudication and resolution of student conduct cases involving academic dishonesty student organization discipline, and/or general student discipline.
- Conform to timelines, confidentiality, and due process for students and student organizations in claim processing and investigations.
- Develop and implement protocol responding to alleged violations and educate the campus community as appropriate.
- Consult with legal counsel regarding high profile cases and those cases that go to a formal hearing; arrange for formal hearings and prepares the University's cases.
- Disseminate, interpret, and enforce campus regulations and administer appropriate sanctions.
- Stipulate and enforce sanctions, based on due process, for individual and/or group violators in accordance with University policy and all local, state, and federal requirements.
- Administer procedures pertaining to campus and system-wide policies on Academic Integrity and investigate alleged incidents of academic dishonesty.
- Facilitate referrals for suspected academic dishonesty and serve as a resource for faculty, staff, and students regarding academic integrity issues.
- Ensure formal hearings are conducted in accordance with University procedures and guidelines, and all parties involved are informed of their rights and responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate conduct records; when appropriate, refer students to other campus services.

STUDENT GRIEVANCES
- Serve as Student Grievance Coordinator and administers the student grievance process, responsible for facilitating resolutions between students as well as faculty, staff, and members of the administration.
- Coordinate grievance hearings and facilitates selection of grievance pool.
- Interpret and disseminate department and campus policies on grading and procedures for addressing grade disputes in conjunction with campus grievance proceedings.
- Cultivate and develop successful working relationships with deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff in seeking informal resolutions to student concerns.

TRAINING AND OUTREACH
- Develop and deploy trainings to educate students on a variety of issues, including but not limited to academic integrity, safety, privacy, on-line communities, ethical decision making, civility, self-responsibility; and to assist faculty/staff concerning student behavioral issues.
- Represent Judicial Affairs by presenting information about the office, student rights and responsibilities, general discipline and grievance proceedings, academic integrity, and student development to students/parents during student orientations and welcome events.
- Develop and present information to new faculty and teaching assistants regarding Judicial Affairs, complaint resolution processes, classroom disruption, and academic integrity.
- Train identified individuals from campus community to serve as Formal Hearing Officers.

JUDICIAL AFFAIRS ADMINISTRATION
- Responsible for the day to day operations of the Judicial Affairs Office.
- Develop and monitor the department budget.
- Review student policies and procedures, collaborate with campus offices to recommend and initiate updates to existing policies and procedures, or to address new issues as necessitated by changes in laws or best practice.
- Conduct assessments, collect evaluative data and produces written analysis reports, including but not limited to, ongoing statistical reports, Clery reports regarding violations, department annual report, and system-wide audits.
- Consider statistical information for service improvements and/or effectiveness.
- Develop and manage content information on department web pages and/or publications.
- Serve and/or represent leadership on campus-wide committees related to Title IX, alcohol/drug abuse, crisis intervention, and other conduct related issues, including serving as Co-Chair of the campus Alcohol and Drug Advisory Committee (ADAC).
- Serve as a 2nd level reviewer for University parking violations.

CASE MANAGEMENT
- Serve as Care Team Coordinator and primary intake representative for reports of students of concern.
- Provide case management oversight for all cases brought forward to the SSU Care Team.
- Make appropriate referrals to SSU students, staff, faculty, and community members.
- Assist referred students in making use of University and/or community services.
- Coordinate and track Care Team recommendations for referred students to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate with parents, families, or designated emergency contacts as appropriate regarding significant mental health emergencies.
- Assist with transitions from campus services to external, community partners (e.g., psychiatric/psychological treatment services, alcohol and drug treatment services, housing, food, etc.).
- Assist with aftercare and transitions from external providers (hospitals, treatment programs, etc.) to the appropriate University services.
- Serve in an on-call rotation as a member of the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Serve as primary contact to students, staff, faculty, families, and members of the SSU community regarding students of concern and their behavior to determine the most appropriate response that meets the constituent's and University's needs.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate strategies and referrals to address student behavior.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to Care Team members in line with NCHERM and NABITA best practices.
- Train Care Team members, evaluate and update policies on a regular basis in line with best practices.
- Work closely with Care Team chair to prepare for and coordinate meetings.
- Oversee and manage Care Team records in online database.
- Update case files.
- Oversee the development and implementation of Care Team operating procedures.
- Develop and implement University protocols and procedures pertaining to students of concern and their behavior.
- Develop and manage a classification rubric for student distress into specific levels of criticality, warranting varying levels of escalating intervention and/or support.
- Serve as Care Team co-chair as needed.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties will primarily take place in an office setting however additional duties may be performed in various locations on the Sonoma State University campus, including working both indoors and outdoors to support and participate in university activities and events. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule however must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. This position will require occasional travel, by automobile or airplane, and overnight stay to travel to trainings and meetings off campus.

This position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, faculty and staff. This position requires, with or without reasonable accommodations, the ability to work long hours when needed, the ability to speak and hear, frequently sit, move or stand, use and enter data into a computer for up to six hours per day.

Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of five years experience in in a student conduct program, or a comparable program of similar scale and complexity, including direct experience with investigations, along with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible and applicable management and/or supervisory experience. Master's degree in Student Development, Counseling, Student Affairs Administration, or any job-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and database management systems required. Knowledge of Google Suite and PeopleSoft preferred.

In addition, this position requires a comprehensive knowledge in principles and practices of student affairs and/or higher education administration, judicial affairs, and student development including alcohol and drug issues; a comprehensive knowledge of student development theories relevant to a university and application of educational approach to student discipline in a university setting; as well as a comprehensive knowledge on research, interview and observation techniques. Working knowledge of state and/or federal policies and laws pertaining to student discipline and grievance in higher education (e.g. Title 5, Title IX, FERPA); and a basic knowledge of student/faculty perspectives on classroom academic issue, along with the personal, social, transitional, and academic challenges encountered by new college students required. Experience with ATIXA, NaBITA, Gehring Institute, and ASCA highly preferred.

The incumbent must possess direct experience working with parents of traditionally-aged college students, and demonstrate commitment and experience working with students from a diverse range of cultural and economic backgrounds. Must demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, parents, employees and external agencies; ability to research, understand, interpret and apply technical procedures, regulations and federal, state, CSU and SSU policies and procedures; ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan work and projects. Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, faculty, staff, students, media, and community members, in addition to prepare written correspondence and reports that are clear, concise and comprehensive. Must demonstrate ability to mediate conflicts and provide dispute resolution in a fair and objective manner; to address confidential and sensitive incidents with composure, discretion, and respect in a manner that upholds the dignity of others; to administer a campus student discipline program; and to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment. Must be able to work productively, collaboratively and in a collegial manner as a member of a team. Must be able to respond appropriately and pro-actively to complex issues and problems and develop strategic solutions. Must possess advanced analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, and be able to develop and implement complex programs and manage a budget responsibly. Must be able to review and analyze complex reports, policies, and legal guidance to accurately assess issues, draw valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate strategies or outcomes according to University goals. Must maintain and promote appropriate standards of professional ethics and behavior. Must be able to adjust to change and demonstrate flexibility and patience with changing expectations (e.g., work environment, responsibilities and assignments, technology).

The incumbent must demonstrate integrity and sound judgment in performing duties; possess the ability to supervise the work of staff and recommend appropriate personnel actions; be able to apply strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills and train and evaluate performance, taking corrective action as needed; deal with stressful situations while maintaining composure; and contribute to a collaborative environment utilizing exemplary communication and problem solving skills as necessary. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously, adjusting quickly to changes needed on a daily basis. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.

The duties of this position may include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent.
