May plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

About the Department and/or College
As one of the four original colleges at Texas Tech University at its founding in 1925, the College of Health & Human Sciences (CHHS)has a rich history of investing in students, preparing them to impact the world around them. The College of Health & Human Sciences provides multidisciplinary education, research, and service focused on individuals, families, and their environments to improve and enhance the human condition. The college offers a wide range of outstanding and nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs and encompasses seven academic units that include Community, Family & Addiction Sciences; the Department of Design; Family & Consumer Sciences Education; Hospitality and Retail Management; Human Development and Family Sciences; Interdisciplinary Human Sciences; Nutritional Sciences; and the School of Personal Financial Planning. In further supporting its vision of providing premier research, outreach, and educational programs that enhance human well-being worldwide, the CHHS is also home to six centers and five institutes. Major/Essential Functions
Grant Proposal Development and Support
- Identify and share appropriate funding opportunities for individual CHHS faculty
- Coordinate CHHS seed grant process, including applications, committee review process, awards, reporting, and tracking progress of grants and resulting external grant applications
- Communicate effectively with ORS, obtaining requested information and timely responses, assisting faculty in completing proposals
Faculty and Staff Support
- Respond in a timely and accurate manner to requests for research information from faculty, staff, and Office of Research Services personnel
- Provide a record of internal seed grants to faculty as requested
- Help to troubleshoot problems and obtain necessary information as requested, related to grant proposals, submissions, and awards
- Maintain and manage the CHHS Qualtrics account, including creating accounts for faculty.
- Coordinate with the College of Media and Communications about CHHS participation in the SONA system and assist faculty with SONA as needed
- Maintain a list of faculty seeking undergraduate researchers in their labs
CHHS Research Office Support
- Coordinate daily business operations
- Assist in coordinating and implementing events hosted by the Research Office (e.g., faculty research forums, undergraduate research forums)
- Coordinate office services, including procurement, fiscal management, office supplies and equipment, file maintenance, and general office paperwork as needed
- Maintain organized files to record and track faculty research proposals (internal and external) and awards, including Excel spreadsheets for grant projects by FY, Department, PI, and Co-PI names, title of project, funding agency, start/end dates, amount of proposal/award, and update files regularly
- Produce a monthly report of grant proposal submissions and awards to the Associate Dean for Research
- Attend CHHS Senior Staff Meetings and provide Research Office updates
- Provide other reports as requested by the Associate Dean for Research
- Coordinate with CHHS Marketing and Communications to maintain current information on the CHHS Research Office website
- Manage information displayed on the Research Office television
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Research.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in area of expertise or closely related area required. Three years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing programs/projects or research grants. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- High level of attention to detail while meeting strict deadlines.
- Ability to work well with a variety of people.
- Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to learn and interpret federal grant guidelines.
- Ability to prioritize workload under tight deadlines; work cooperatively with faculty and staff within CHHS and across units in the university; knowledge of university organization, faculty responsibilities, and motivations; willingness and ability to work well with others and also independently; ability to multitask.
- Experience with internal TTU systems (e.g., Cayuse, Cognos, TechBuy, Chrome River for Travel and Procurement Cards, etc.)
- Experience with grant proposal management and social sciences research.
- Knowledge of, or ability to become knowledgeable about, federal regulations and federal agency policies related to grants and contracts with universities, including basic definitions and terms (e.g., F & A rate, cost sharing).
- Understanding or ability to quickly gain and understand university policies, procedures, and systems related to the administration of sponsored projects. This includes proposal submission, budgeting, personnel/payroll, travel, purchasing, and accounting.
