Brief Summary of Job Duties
The Senior Grant Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting work of a complex nature involving reconciliations, reviews of multiple accounts and transactions, coordination of post-award accounting and preparation of compliance reports and may serve as a project leader on special projects. More complex and intricate grants are the responsibility of the senior grant accountant. The senior grant accountant will investigate and resolve issues and discrepancies and have a complete understanding and interpretation of award documents.
Additional Responsibilities Specific to the Senior Grant Accountant (GESTAR II) Position:
General Task
Ensuring compliance with all MSU finance policies and procedures.
Act as primary advisor to GESTAR II Senior Financial Analyst on proper recording of financial transactions and Finance team processes.
Maintain all GESTAR II financial files.
Budget
Assign new index/fund budget codes to all new tasks for the GESTAR program.
Enter GESTAR II budgets in BANNER
Work with the Senior Financial Analyst GESTAR II monthly to build budgets for the GESTAR operations
Monthly Close
Enter monthly journal entries as provided by the Senior Financial Analyst. These include monthly adjusting entries, accruals and other recurring transactions
Prepare the monthly GESTAR II task reports and grant audit schedules
Coordinate with the Senior Financial Analyst on a monthly basis prior to the release to the PI/Director
Meet monthly with the Senior Financial Analyst to review and discuss variances
Review monthly invoices and send to sponsor
Follow up on payments of monthly invoices
Audit
Support the audit process by preparing all GESTAR II PBC assigned items, schedules and respond to audit inquiries in a timely manner
Assist in providing documentation and monitoring of internal controls. Assist Senior Financial Analyst in completing audits for the GESTAR cooperative agreements including the reconciliation of all tasks

Requested Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited College or University. A minimum of four (4) years in Accounting or related field is required.
