Position Information

Hiring Department: AVP Student Financial Services

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt.

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $40,000 Annually.

A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Assists with the daily operations of the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Essential Functions



Examines, evaluates, and authorizes financial aid and scholarship awards; reviews, processes, and administers financial aid and scholarship applications.

Meets with prospective and continuing student applicants and families and requests specified information to determine eligibility for financial aid.

Corresponds with applicants/recipients to resolve questions regarding application and eligibility information.

Authorizes, generates, and prepares required records and reports.

Composes, prepares, and proofreads confidential correspondence, reports, and other complex documents.

Assists with outreach, recruitment, retention, financial literacy, and special projects as assigned; confers with individuals and group disseminated information and conducts scholarship, financial aid, and financial literacy workshops at local high schools, on campus, and through the community as requested.

Counsels and advises students regarding their financial options and responsibilities.

Handles email and phone inquiries/requests for information.

Answers inquiries regarding awards and problems with financial aid and academic eligibility.

Prepares and reviews forms and reports as required by donors, programs, and departments.

May supervise student employees in the administration of programs and gathering of information.

Consistently maintains a high degree of confidentiality agencies to coordinate various events and activities.

Works with other UTEP departments and community agencies to coordinate various events and activities.

May be required to work institutional special events such as commencement, Orange & Blue Day, etc., with advance notice.

Complies with all federal, state, and university policies.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, education, social science, or related field from a college or four-year university.

and

Experience: One year of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The candidate must have access to several federal databases. To be granted access and clearance to these Federal systems, the incumbent cannot be in default on any type of federal student loan.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use institutional software systems.

Ability to analyze issues and suggest possible alternatives and options to address these issues.

Skill in resolving complex problems.

Individual must be a self-starter, capable of establishing priorities, forward-thinking and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Exceptional customer service abilities.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Strong interpersonal skills. Must be personable, approachable and a team player.

Detail-oriented, accurate, organized, and efficient.

Ability to work independently, handle large volumes of work, and multi-task with frequent interruptions.

Ability to handle information in a confidential and professional manner.

Working knowledge of U.S. Department of Education (Title IV) rules and regulations.

Ability to follow regulatory policy and related procedures.
